Looking for resources for Black History Month in Canada? Integrate the history and culture of Black Canadians into your program with these great read-alouds...at any time of the year! Many of the picture books were written by Canadian authors or feature Canadian settings and characters. I’ve included some popular picture books about African Americans and some of my favourite fables and folktales.

A comprehension check is included for each book for students to recount facts from the story and/or do some inferring. The comprehension checks are best suited for students in grades 2-3. There is also a response page for each book. They are best suited for grades 1-2.
